Alumni Therapy Fund FAQ

List of 6 frequently asked questions.

  • Q. What are the required qualifications for an approved mental health provider?

Approved providers must be licensed to practice in their state and hold a masters' degree or higher in a mental health discipline.
  • Q. What happens when I call RAINN seeking reimbursement? How will requests for reimbursement be approved?

RAINN will provide resources and emotional support and administer the intake process for all callers seeking access to the therapy fund for services and verify that the caller is an eligible Prep alum. No personally identifiable information, including the name of the caller, will be provided to Prep.

RAINN will ask callers to provide certain information at intake (e.g., name, contingent year, dates of the alleged misconduct, a brief description of the nature of the alleged misconduct, and the caller's contact information). RAINN will report incidents to the State of New York's Child Protective Services (or other applicable state) as required in accordance with state law but will otherwise maintain confidentiality concerning all information received from victims. RAINN hotline staff will inform all callers if such a report must be made and will remind callers of RAINN's obligation to report prior to gathering information that may prompt such a report.

Once RAINN has completed the intake process and confirmed that the caller is an eligible alum, the caller is automatically approved for reimbursement. RAINN will connect the caller to a third-party claims administrator (Bernie Fitzgerald) to process timely reimbursement. Mr. Fitzgerald has previously worked alongside RAINN to administer reimbursement funds.
  • Q. How do I access immediate
    support or locate counseling assistance?

RAINN operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline in partnership with over 1,000 local service providers. The hotline can be used to access immediate support services, including crisis intervention, information, and resources, at any time by alumni who were victims of adult sexual misconduct during their time at Prep. The hotline can also provide alumni with information and resources for how to find a local counselor or therapist. The National Sexual Assault Hotline can be accessed 24/7 by phone at (800) 656-4673 or online chat at hotline.rainn/org/online. The hotline is free, anonymous, confidential, and available via both English and Spanish.
  • Q. How do I know if I am eligible to access support from the Prep for Prep Alumni Therapy Fund?

The Prep for Prep Alumni Therapy Fund is available for Prep alumni who may have experienced sexual misconduct by an adult member of Prep's faculty or staff when they were in the program. RAINN Hotline staff will confidentially verify your eligibility.
  • Q. What is the maximum amount of support available to alumni for therapy costs?

    • Individuals can receive up to a maximum of $15,000 for therapy costs.
    • Of that $15,000, up to $5,000 can be used for historic therapy costs.
    • Prep will review this commitment annually.
  • Q. How does this process keep me anonymous to Prep?

Callers that RAINN identifies as eligible to access the Prep for Prep Therapy Fund will be connected to Bernie Fitzgerald, the independent third-party administrator, to process claims. Neither RAINN nor the claims administrator will provide Prep with an identifying information about callers.

We are delighted to invite you to join PrepforPrepAlumni.org - the official networking platform for Prep for Prep alumni.

PrepforPrepAlumni.org brings our community together by providing access to:
  • An opt-in directory of alumni, where you can connect with your Prep for Prep Alumni Community around the world.
  • A mentorship program, where you can be mentored by others or offer mentorship to fellow alumni. Please note this is a self-directed program, not facilitated by Prep.
Sign up here by registering with your Linkedin, Facebook, or Google accounts; or any current email address.

Graduway provided instructional videos to facilitate an easy transition to using the platform.
Also, please download the complementary app, available on the Apple App Store (download the container app entitled “Graduway Community” and then choose "Prep for Prep" as your school) and the Google Play Store (the app is a white label and is titled “Prep for Prep Alumni”).

Please contact alumniaffairs@prepforprep.org with any questions.

Visitation Policy

*Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, visitors are not permitted at this time. We look forward to welcoming back alums to Prep's offices when we can safely do so.*

Our alumni are encouraged to visit and reconnect with Prep for Prep. So that Prep staff can manage their schedules, we ask that alums make appointments with staff members in advance of their visit by phone or email. We also ask that they adhere to the security policies of the site they are visiting (i.e. sign in when visiting the Brownstones, show ID and wear name tags when visiting programs that are held in partner schools, etc.).
